Engineers working for Suffolk County Council will be updating warning signage relating to the low rail bridge on the Thornham Road that will involve temporary closure of the road.
The closure, subject to agreement with Network Rail, is proposed for a period of 5 days from the 8th -12th September 2014. See diversionary route plan.
The work is necessary to comply with new regulations updating low bridge signage to help prevent the growing problem of ‘bridge strikes’ by heavy lorries. The Thornham rail bridge is deemed to be a potential risk and the new signage and road markings will give advanced height restriction warnings to drivers on every approach to the bridge. In addition, the black and yellow reduced headroom chevrons will also be upgraded on the bridge itself.
