At the Parish Council meeting in July a decision was finally taken on purchasing new football goals for the Charity Meadow. The debate has been rumbling for some time and it was originally intended to buy nets for the existing goals. After discussion it was decided instead to purchase two smaller goals with nets ideally suited to younger budding footballers.
Cllr Adams reported that some missing footpath signs still had not been replaced and paths had not been cut. The poor response time by SCC was reported to Jessica Fleming, our County Councillor. She took an action to report back to SCC but pointed out that this was not an isolated problem and that other villages were complaining similarly.
Again, after some debate, the Council decided to work towards achieving The Quality Award in the Local Council Award Scheme. The award itself brings few privileges but it provides a good benchmark for our Council to achieve a recognized high standard of performance. The Council already meets some of the criteria but there is scope for improvement in some aspects of the Council’s work and a small working group will develop an action plan.
Finally, the Council discussed more pro-active ways of reminding drivers of the speed limit and it was suggested that stickers be provided for wheelie bins indicating that we are in an area where 30mph is the maximum legal speed. It was suggested that stickers are provided for houses along Mill St, Thornham Rd and High St as these are the roads where drivers are most likely to exceed the limit. The issue will be discussed fully at the August meeting.
The next Parish Council help desk will be in the Village Hall on Saturday 1 August from 10am to 12 noon. The next Parish Council Meeting will be on Monday 24 August at 7:30pm.
