At school, two eco-councillors have been chosen to be the Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSOs.) We wear badges so that we can be recognised. We feel that it is not just the pupils in school who need to know about road safety, it is also the parents and people who drive children to school. We believe that too many people park in front of the school and we think people should park at the village hall and walk. It is also a good opportunity to get some fresh air before school.
The Junior Road Safety Officers will keep a scrapbook of any competitions and what we get up to. Before Christmas we held a poster competition for children to explain to parents where to park and where not to park outside the school. We are laminating the winning posters to put up outside the school so parents can see them. In January, we held a ‘Be Bright Be Seen Day.’ We did an assembly so the pupils knew why it is important to be bright and held a non-uniform day where children wore bright clothes. We plan to use the money raised to buy some pedometers.
We have got lots more road safety activities planned at school. Please make sure you are being safe all the time on any transport including walking, biking, scootering and driving.
